Job Summary:
Provides nursing care and services to patients/families under direct supervision of a registered nurse. The graduate nurse, under the immediate supervision of a preceptor or supervising nurse, provides nursing care, treatment and services, and/or health education information to patients. Maintains the standards of nursing care, follows established policies, procedures, or specific instructions, and may participate in patient and family teaching. Performs other duties as assigned.
The graduate nurse has a narrow latitude in exercising initiative and judgment. Specific and detailed instructions are provided by the preceptor or supervising nurse for the tasks to be performed, the procedures to be followed, and the manner in which work is to be submitted. Training and work assignments are closely and critically reviewed for compliance with instructions, thoroughness, and application of standard practices and techniques to assure advancement in training and development. Continued guidance and instruction are provided by a preceptor or supervising nurse.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Contributes to ongoing patient data collection and documentation; identifies changes in patient status and reports changes to preceptor; implements patient care plans under the direction of a registered nurse.
- Care delivery demonstrate knowledge and ability to apply the nursing process.
- Performs nursing task as delegated by a registered requiring nursing knowledge, under the immediate supervision of a preceptor or supervising nurse.
- Assists with admissions, discharges and transfers.
- Demonstrates technical competence in basic nursing skills and use of basic patient care equipment.
- Records data and nursing care activities in the medical record consistent with department and regulatory standards.
- Supports nursing care by providing related services such as clerical support and patient transportation.
- Demonstrates knowledge of and application of infection control principles and standards, including patient, environment and employee situations.
- Reports incidents, work related injuries, unsafe equipment or environment to management or other appropriate staff.
- Reports pertinent patient data and changes in patients' condition to licensed nursing staff, charge nurse or supervisor.
- Participates as directed during emergency situations.
- Incorporates MHS organization Values throughout their care delivery.
- Performs administrative and other duties and accepts responsibility as assigned.
