About the position

A DBA Intern at Covenant Eyes will perform the same day-to-day tasks as our DBAs but with more oversight and mentoring from the members of our Database Team.  This position will plan, help coordinate, and participate in all activities related to the design, development, implementation and ongoing support of the enterprise test, preproduction, and production databases.

The DBA Intern is also responsible for the hands-on support of existing technology solutions and for technical definition and delivery of new solutions and tools, both internal and customer facing.

Responsibilities

  • Configuring, maintaining, monitoring, optimizing, and supporting CE s high availability and geographically dispersed databases
  • Installing and testing database software upgrades
  • Developing, documenting, and communicating standards for use, operations, and security of databases and data
  • Analyzing business requirements to identify and implement database and replication solutions
  • Participating in a monthly on-call rotation
  • Performing Business Analytics and Data Mining
  • Troubleshooting and correcting database issues
  • Participating in systems implementation projects
  • Working alongside and being highly responsive and communicative with cross functional teams, including Developers, Systems Engineers, User Experience Practitioners, and Quality Assurance Practitioners

 

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in an accredited 4-year Computer Science program or related field. Postgraduates will also be considered for the internship.
  • Familiarity with MySQL, MariaDB, MySQL Replication
  • Basic understanding of stored procedures & functions, triggers, views
  • Previous exposure to Linux (RHEL 6 or newer [and variants])
  • An understanding of shell scripting and/or programming languages
  • The majority of your time will be spent at a desk using a phone, computer and monitor, and general office equipment. You may be required to reach with hands and arms; sit; stand; talk and hear; use your hands to finger, handle, or feel.
