POSITION SUMMARY

The Leader of Application and Data Engineering is responsible for overseeing the design, development, and delivery of scalable and innovative software solutions that align with business goals and customer needs. This role leads both the application development and data engineering teams, ensuring alignment between technical initiatives and organizational strategy. The position requires expertise in software engineering, data management, cloud technologies, and team leadership. The ideal candidate will be a visionary leader with a strong background in Microsoft technologies, data strategy, and system architecture, capable of fostering a high-performance engineering culture while driving digital transformation efforts.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

Strategic Leadership & Vision

  • Define and execute the vision and strategy for the application development and data engineering teams.
  • Ensure alignment with the company’s mission, values, and business objectives.
  • Stay ahead of industry trends and drive the adoption of innovative technologies.

Software Development & Data Engineering Management

  • Lead the design, development, testing, and deployment of software applications and data platforms.
  • Ensure that applications are highly available, scalable, and secure.
  • Oversee the data pipeline, data warehouse, and data analytics platforms.

Team Development & Leadership

  • Build, mentor, and manage a high-performing team of software and data engineers.
  • Establish clear goals and performance metrics for team members.
  • Recruit and retain top engineering talent, fostering a culture of innovation and excellence.

Technology & Architecture Governance

  • Establish and enforce best practices, standards, and processes for software and data engineering.
  • Ensure compliance with security, privacy, and regulatory requirements.
  • Oversee architecture decisions, ensuring scalable and maintainable solutions.

Cross-Functional Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Work closely with product managers, business analysts, and engineers to align technical initiatives with business needs.
  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders, executives, and other team leaders.
  • Build strong relationships and partnerships across the organization.

Project & Resource Management

  • Manage timelines, budgets, and resources for application and data engineering projects.
  • Ensure timely delivery of projects while maintaining high-quality standards.
  • Evaluate project risks and implement mitigation strategies.

Continuous Improvement & Innovation

  • Lead the adoption of new tools, technologies, and methodologies to enhance team efficiency.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives across software development and data management processes.
  • Provide thought leadership on industry trends and best practices.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES)

Required Qualifications

  • 15+ years of progressive experience in software development and data engineering.
  • At least 10 years of leadership and management experience in an engineering role.
  • Proven track record of delivering complex and innovative software solutions and data platforms.
  • Strong knowledge of software and data engineering best practices, including security, testing, and performance optimization.
  • Deep expertise in Microsoft technologies, including:
    1. Visual Studio, Azure DevOps, Microsoft Fabric, Power BI, and Dynamics 365.
    2. Data warehousing solutions like Snowflake or similar platforms.
  • Strong understanding of data governance frameworks and data strategy principles.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong business acumen to align technical solutions with business strategy.
  • Ability to motivate and inspire teams while fostering a culture of excellence.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience managing distributed engineering teams across multiple locations.
  • Strong understanding of cloud computing strategies and scalable system architectures.
  • Ability to think strategically, creatively, and analytically to drive innovation.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, and stakeholders in a fast-paced environment.
