Role Summary:
As a Staff Data Engineer, you will lead the development of scalable, high-quality data pipelines and systems, enabling analytics and predictive modeling across a variety of healthcare data sources. Your expertise will drive our client’s mission to deliver actionable insights and reliable data solutions to their teams and partners.
Key Responsibilities:
Data Engineering Leadership:
Lead the design and implementation of scalable data pipelines for ingesting, cleaning, and standardizing healthcare data.
Build foundational data layers for analytics engineers to develop models and insights efficiently.
Data Enrichment & Quality:
Identify, process, and manage diverse data sources (e.g., claims, EHRs, lab data) to enrich analytical capabilities.
Ensure high data quality, consistency, and accessibility through rigorous validation and monitoring systems.
Governance & Strategy:
Own and evolve data schemas, dictionaries, and governance structures to enable scalable data use across teams.
Collaborate with senior leaders across engineering, product, and customer success to define data strategies aligned with company objectives.
Operational Excellence:
Proactively monitor and address operational issues, implementing preventive measures to minimize disruptions.
Mentor and support engineers in building robust, scalable data systems.
What We’re Looking For:
Healthcare Expertise:
10+ years of professional experience as a data engineer, with significant experience in the healthcare sector.
Hands-on experience with sensitive claims data, patient data, and healthcare data standards (e.g., FHIR, HL7, EDI).
Familiarity with healthcare data sets such as claims, EHRs, clinical data, and labs, including their structure and applications.
Technical Proficiency:
Expertise in designing and building production data systems, including pipelines, orchestration frameworks, and scalable models.
Advanced proficiency in SQL, Python, shell scripting, and DBT for data modeling and ETL workflows.
Strong experience with modern data warehouse technologies (e.g., Redshift, BigQuery, Snowflake).
Proficiency in orchestration frameworks like Airflow, Dagster, or Flyte.
Leadership & Communication:
Proven track record of solving complex, ambiguous technical problems with reliable solutions.
Ability to operate independently and collaboratively, delivering results in dynamic environments.
Experience mentoring engineers and presenting complex data in an accessible, actionable manner.
