Brandeis University invites applications for the Hornstein Jewish Professional Leadership Program to develop OHRNS 230: Global Jewry starting in the spring semester of 2025.  This is a required course in the Online Master of Arts in Jewish Professional Leadership program.  In addition to developing this course, there is an opportunity to become the primary instructor for this course, which is scheduled to run in 2026. All course developers are required to complete the Brandeis Online Learning to Teach Online module series as part of the course design process.

OHRNS 250: Global Jewry, 2 credits

This course will delve into the unique history and makeup of global Jewry and the respective communal structures and community organizations that support these communities across the world. The course will explore  current communal realities and needs of different Jewish communities, including distinct Ashkenazi, Sephardic, Mizrahi migrations undergone throughout the 20th Century. Among the components of the course are the unique ways Zionism and a connection to Israel exhibits in different Jewish communities, the unique pathway through which philanthropy has developed, as well as how trends of migration and outmigration have shaped different Jewish communities. These factors will be examined as they hold important implications for evolving US Jewish communities and a modern condition of transnational Jewish peoplehood.
