Job Description: Applied Data Scientist (Insights & Outcomes)

Keeping the human in AI. mpathic is a trusted leader in advancing clinical accuracy and quality through AI-powered oversight. Backed by over a decade of scientific validation, its comprehensive platform analyzes and interprets conversational and contextual data. By integrating human and AI analytics, it drives enhanced organizational efficiency, with patient safety as the top priority.

From a seed-stage, VC-backed start-up, our journey has been backed by notable investors including Foundry.vc, Next Frontier Capital, Illuminate, Portland Seed Fund, and Full-Circle, among other notable investors.

About You:

We’re looking for an Applied Data Scientist with 2+ years of experience to join our Data and Research team. You’re curious, analytically rigorous, and comfortable transforming complex datasets into insights that demonstrate the real-world impact of AI. You thrive at the intersection of data, behavioral science, and technology—and you’re motivated by how your work can improve human understanding and clinical outcomes.

You will report to the SVP of Data and Research (licensed psychologist) and be the team’s go-to expert for data quality, analysis, and model performance measurement. You’ll work closely with our engineering and product teams to evaluate how our AI models—and increasingly, our LLM-powered tools—translate into measurable business and clinical ROI. If you love wrangling messy data into clear stories about product impact and model performance, this role is for you.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Take ownership of data preparation tasks, from querying raw sources to cleaning, transforming, and structuring datasets for robust analysis and model evaluation.
  • Design and implement data quality frameworks to ensure integrity, identify anomalies, and handle missing or imbalanced data effectively.
  • Analyze AI and LLM-driven outputs using metrics like accuracy, precision, recall, and F1, and perform deep dives into performance trends and errors.
  • Translate evaluation results into compelling narratives about model ROI, efficiency gains, and clinical outcomes.
  • Build clear and visually engaging dashboards using tools such as Plotly, Matplotlib, or similar frameworks—selecting visualization methods that best communicate results to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Collaborate closely with clinical leaders, NLP engineers, and researchers to structure pipelines and QA model outputs for benchmarking and continuous improvement.
  • Partner with the research and product teams to support data-driven decision-making in product development, evaluation, and client success.
  • Contribute to internal reports, manuscripts, and white papers that turn technical findings into actionable insights.

Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of professional experience in a data-focused role such as Data Scientist, Data Analyst, or a related field.
  • Strong proficiency in SQL for querying and aggregating large datasets.
  • Proficiency in Python and core data science libraries (Pandas, NumPy, etc.).
  • Hands-on experience creating data visualizations and dashboards (e.g., Plotly, Matplotlib, or equivalent visualization frameworks).
  • Comfortable working in cloud environments (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and using version control tools such as Git.
  • Strong understanding of statistical modeling, data wrangling, and exploratory analysis.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, especially in translating technical outputs into clear insights for diverse audiences.
  • Demonstrated interest in behavioral science, healthcare analytics, or AI for human-centered applications.

Life at mpathic:

Prioritizing Work-Life Balance

As a remote-first company, we emphasize work-life balance. Twice-yearly in-person retreats, quarterly hackathons, flexible work location policies, other benefits such as 100% funded healthcare benefits, flexible-managed PTO, training and education funding, are all part of life at mpathic.

Promoting Inclusion and Diversity
At mpathic, we welcome underrepresented individuals in tech and outside of tech. Maybe you've been overlooked, faced a glass ceiling, a paperwork barrier, couldn't code switch exactly right, had to up-manage others while doing all the work, don't want to have to deal with feeling tired or like an outsider anymore. We are a tech company run by a psychologist in a tech environment that has a history of systemic problems; we are re-imagining start-up life together, intentionally.

Our workplace values include equality, transparency, and inclusion. We take pride in managing systemic bias within the company. Our Board of Directors and VCs are all 100% women or non-binary, and our company includes more than 60% persons of color.

mpathic is an Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, gender, national origin, disability status, protected veteran status, or any other characteristics protected by law. We believe in diversity and inclusion, and we welcome applicants from all backgrounds to join our team.

Compensation:

Base Pay + Equity + Benefits

A reasonable estimate of the salary range for this role is $70,000-85,000. Any offered salary range is based on a wide array of factors including but not limited to skillset, experience, training, location, scope of role, management responsibility, etc.

Following our Equal Pay Commitment, we have salary banding and established vesting schedules for equity.
