Job Description: Cloud Data Architect (SAS-to-Snowflake Migration)
Position Title: Cloud Data Architect
Position Overview
The Cloud Data Architect will lead the design and implementation of a modern cloud-based data architecture as part of the transition from legacy SAS-based ETL processes to Snowflake. The role involves defining the technical roadmap, data modeling standards, integration strategies, and cloud-native patterns that support performance, scalability, and security across the data pipeline.
Key Responsibilities
- Architect end-to-end migration strategy from SAS ETL solutions to Snowflake in AWS.
- Design scalable and secure Snowflake data architectures, including schemas, roles, data access, and performance strategies.
- Define and guide the data modeling process (e.g., star schema, normalization, de-normalization) for analytical and operational use cases.
- Collaborate with ETL developers to translate existing SAS logic into optimized Snowflake-based workflows.
- Configure and advise on AWS services (e.g., S3, Lambda, Glue, IAM) that integrate with Snowflake.
- Establish cloud governance frameworks including cost control, monitoring, and logging.
- Support the development of CI/CD pipelines for Snowflake deployment (e.g., dbt, GitHub Actions).
- Implement data security and compliance controls aligned with FedRAMP/NIST standards.
- Lead architectural reviews and provide technical oversight throughout the migration lifecycle.
Required Qualifications
- 7+ years of experience in data architecture, with at least 3 years in cloud-native environments (AWS preferred).
- Proven experience designing and implementing Snowflake-based data platforms.
- Strong background in data modeling and SQL performance tuning.
- Familiarity with legacy SAS systems and understanding of SAS dataset structure/logic.
- Hands-on experience with cloud services (AWS, Snowflake) and data integration frameworks (e.g., dbt, Glue, Matillion).
- Strong understanding of IAM, encryption, RBAC, and other data security practices.
Preferred Qualifications
- AWS Solutions Architect certification
- Snowflake SnowPro certification
- Experience in government or highly regulated industries (e.g., USDA, HHS, DoD)
- Familiarity with Agile delivery and DevOps practices
