Mathematics Expert, Part-Time AI Math Task Validation - Remote (United States)
OpenTrain AI$60-$120 per hour equivalent, paid per accepted task
100% remote
Part-time
About 15 hours a week, you choose when
AI systems get better at mathematics when experts check both their reasoning and their numbers.
AI training is the human work behind AI systems that learn from worked examples. Teams building these systems need mathematicians who can write and solve hard problems, check each step, and confirm the results with Python and scientific software. Your checks help test whether AI-generated mathematical solutions are correct and reproducible. This is remote, part-time contractor work applying your mathematical expertise to AI training.
What you'll do
Write, solve and review advanced mathematical tasks used to train AI systems
Turn mathematical requirements into precise procedures and implement them with Python and command-line tools
Automate calculations, numerical experiments, parameter sweeps and visualizations, then check the results
Test special cases and confirm that results are mathematically sound, numerically correct and reproducible
Why this is worth your time
Earn $60-$120 an hour equivalent while solving and checking advanced mathematical tasks
Work on AI systems as they learn to reason through mathematics, checking their solutions step by step
Put Python and scientific software to work on well-defined mathematical problems
Fully remote and flexible, no fixed shifts, no commute
Who this is for
Fluent in English
MS or PhD in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Statistics or Operations Research, or in Computational Science, Theoretical Computer Science or another closely related quantitative field
Or a BS in Mathematics or a related quantitative field, plus 1 to 2 years of professional or research experience focused on mathematics
Strong expertise in at least one area: applied mathematics, numerical analysis, optimization, probability or statistics, or discrete mathematics, algebra or geometry, or mathematical modeling or dynamical systems
Practical Python experience in mathematical computation, automation, experimentation or validation
Familiarity with scientific tools such as NumPy, SciPy, SymPy, SageMath and CVXPY, or pandas, Matplotlib, Jupyter, Julia or GNU Octave, numerical solvers or comparable software
Helpful background includes command-line mathematical tools, optimization libraries, numerical methods, scientific computing, or reproducible computational research.
No AI experience needed. You bring the expertise; you create, solve and validate the mathematical tasks.
