Open Source Software Engineer, Part-Time AI Coding Tasks - Remote (United States)
OpenTrain AI• $50–$100 per hour equivalent, paid per accepted task
• 100% remote
• Part-time
• Under 20 hours a week, you choose when
Build reproducible coding environments on your own schedule and help test how well AI systems write, fix and improve real software.
AI training is the human work behind artificial intelligence: experts read what a model produces, decide whether it is right, and write the feedback that makes the next version better. Coding models improve only when the tasks and checks used to train them are realistic and sound, so the teams building them need software engineers who can design problems, write verifiers that separate right answers from wrong ones, and explain their reasoning clearly. This is part-time contract work done remotely on a flexible schedule.
What you'll do
• Design realistic coding tasks around new features, bug fixes, refactoring and performance work
• Write reference solutions and deterministic verifiers that pass correct answers and reject wrong ones
• Produce code samples, debugging approaches and written technical reasoning, and dig into defects and bottlenecks in varied codebases
• Refactor legacy code for clarity, efficiency and reliability, and review code and submissions from other contributors for accuracy
Why this is worth your time
• Earn the equivalent of $50–$100 an hour designing coding tasks, reference solutions and verifiers
• Work on AI coding systems learning to implement features, fix bugs and refactor across many codebases
• Apply your software engineering judgment to task design, verifiers and code review
• Fully remote and flexible, no fixed shifts, no commute
Who this is for
• Strong hands-on skill in a language such as Python, Java, Rust, Go, C++ or TypeScript, or a similar one
• Backend experience building scalable services and APIs
• Knowledge of data structures, algorithms, software engineering principles, automated testing and code review
• Able to debug complex systems, fix bugs, improve performance and work in large codebases
• Clear technical writing and communication skills, including work in English
• Helpful background includes open source contributions and a public GitHub profile.
• No AI experience needed. You bring the expertise; your judgment helps improve AI models.
Pay and details
• $50–$100 per hour equivalent; pay is per accepted task, as an independent contractor
• Part-time, flexible schedule; fully remote, United States
