Job Location: Richmond, VA (Hybrid – Tuesday and Wednesday Onsite)

Note: Candidates must be currently local within a commutable distance not to exceed 1.5 hours. The manager is not interested in candidates who will need to relocate to accept the offer. State experience is required.

Job Description:

The Virginia Retirement System (VRS) Data Office team is seeking up to two senior-level Power BI/SQL Developers with strong problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills. This role requires close collaboration with Business, IT, and other stakeholders to support the Data Quality Enhancement initiative and other development efforts. The candidate should be a self-starter with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain the confidentiality of all business data and adhere to VRS data security policies.
  • Deliver all tasks within agreed-upon timelines.
  • Provide regular status updates and attend required meetings.
  • Develop, design, and maintain Power BI reports and dashboards based on business requirements.
  • Create interactive visualizations, reports, and dashboards to monitor Critical Data Elements.
  • Optimize reports and advise on best practices in data visualization.
  • Work closely with business stakeholders to translate data needs into actionable reports.
  • Develop and optimize SQL queries and stored procedures for data retrieval and manipulation.
  • Write complex DAX queries to enhance report functionality and performance.
  • Support KPIs and other performance indicators through report development.
  • Provide training and support to end-users on Power BI and SQL tools.
  • Review SQL Queries, Execution Plans, Partitions, and Indexing for performance enhancements.
  • Convert Excel data manipulation activities into automated solutions to reduce processing time.
  • Work on special projects assigned by the Chief Operating Officer or Data Officer.
