We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Director of Enterprise Data Engineering to lead and support the development of large-scale, complex data implementations. The Director of Enterprise Data Engineering is a forward-thinking and strategic leader with a strong focus on harnessing data to drive innovation, scalability, and growth. This essential role involves close collaboration with business leaders and technology teams to shape and execute a comprehensive data strategy that aligns with our organizational goals. Your leadership will not only inspire but also act as a driving force for embedding a data-centric culture throughout the organization, making you a key player in our mission to achieve and exceed our ambitious objectives. The ideal candidate will have strong technical and leadership skills, experience managing distributed teams (onsite, remote, and international), and a commitment to continuous improvement and innovation.

Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership:

  • Define and lead the organization's enterprise data strategy, aligned with broader digital transformation objectives.

  • Identify, prioritize, and champion high-impact data use cases across various business functions (e.g., operations, customer experience, finance, marketing, risk).

  • Collaborate with executive leadership to develop Data-driven business models and solutions.

  • Drive AI adoption and digital innovation, transforming data into actionable insights and business outcomes.

Program Oversight & Execution:

  • Support all of AI/ML projects data needs, from proof-of-concept to production at scale.

  • Ensure proper governance, compliance, risk management, and ethical data practices.

  • Establish KPIs and success metrics to monitor the effectiveness and ROI of data initiatives.

  • Manage vendor relationships, including cloud providers, AI platforms, and consulting partners.

Team Leadership & Talent Development:

  • Build, lead, and mentor a high-performing team of data engineers,  ML engineers, AI product managers, and analysts.

  • Foster a culture of experimentation, agility, and responsible innovation.

  • Support internal education and AI literacy across the enterprise to empower departments to leverage AI effectively.

Architecture, Data & Technology:

  • Implement a strategic data governance framework, working collaboratively across departments to improve data quality, ensure compliance, and enhance accessibility.

  • Manage the development and maintenance of robust Snowflake and SQL scripts for data extraction and transformation.

  • Ensure high-quality, scalable data integration solutions across platforms and business functions.

  • Partner with Data Engineering, IT, and Architecture teams to ensure scalable AI infrastructure, data pipelines, and model deployment frameworks.

  • Keep abreast of emerging AI trends and technologies and evaluate their applicability to the business.

Position Requirements:

  • Experience: Minimum of 10 years of experience in data management, with at least 5 years in a leadership role, preferably in the insurtech industry.

  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in data analytics, machine learning, AI technologies, and relevant programming languages.

  • Industry Knowledge: Deep understanding of insurtech industry processes, challenges, and opportunities.

  • Leadership: Strong leadership and team management skills, with a proven ability to drive cross-functional initiatives.

  • Strong knowledge of enterprise IT, data governance, architecture, and security standards.

  • Exceptional communication and influence skills, with the ability to present complex topics to executive and non-technical audiences.

  • Strategic thinker with strong business acumen and a collaborative mindset.

  • Experienced in Master Data Management (MDM) implementation. Familiar with MDM products such as Reltio.

  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Azure services, including Azure Data Factory (ADF), Logic Apps, and Power BI.

  • Experienced in ETL tools such as Talend, Nexla, Stitch, or Mito.

  • Knowledge of data orchestration and scheduling tools such as Apache Airflow.

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience implementing Responsible AI frameworks or working within regulated industries (e.g., healthcare, finance, insurance).

  • Familiarity with AI compliance (e.g., GDPR, CPRA) and explainable AI practices.

  • Background in integrating generative AI solutions (e.g., large language models) in enterprise workflows.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, or related field; advanced degree (Master’s or PhD) preferred.
